How graphics uses to influence the children's market?

This post base on my research, collecting information from various secondary resources, including textbook, companies’ data, and online articles. I hope it may useful for those who interesting in package design area.

Children feel about the package is often transferred to how they feel about the product itself in term of ‘sensation transference’. So, if the designer creates a package that can likely influence the positive feelings of children, the children’s preference of that certain product is likely enhanced also.

The best way uses graphic to design a package for maximum children appeal as following:

   - Creating the personalities’ actions through colourful illustrations that expand their activities the package will create ‘want to have it’ selling atmosphere to attract children.

    - Creates a link between a child’s imagination and how successfully it can accommodate the children’s natural play instinct.
Contain secondary feature panels such as stories, games or collectable items
Some products, the ability to see and touch the actual product is more important

Children’s products packaging needs to include as much information as possible in a language understandable to children of the age level to which the product applies.

How to design premium package: Pea package project

Understanding the product position

Based on the individual characteristics the product position is based on price and the marketing strategy of each department store. A product can be marketed differently depending on the product range for example an economy product or premium range product. These differences as well as price should be reflected in the brand image and its design.

- Materials used in the package can also affect the product cost. It is recommended to select a material which compliments the product usage.
- Special techniques such as die-cutting to display the product type can greatly add to the effectiveness of the packaging. However one must be careful that the cost of producing this type of design can be offset appropriately against the sale price of the product .

Concept : The concept of the pea package design is to demonstrate the freshness of the product contained in the packaging. The package is designed to carry the product in four individual trays which relates to four one person servings per package. It allows the consumer to easily identify the amount of servings they require in each meal. Segregating the product in this manner allows the product to stay fresher for longer each tray is individually sealed.
